    Effect of Temperature on Free Vibration of Functionally Graded Plate With Cutout

    Present article performs the parametric study on vibration characteristics of functionally graded (FG) plate with central hole in thermal environment. ANSYS Parametric Design language is used in developing Finite element model and discretization of the material is done using an eight-node serendipity shell element. Displacement field of the present model is developed using first-order shear deformation theory (FOSDT) with six degrees of freedom. Frequency responses are extracted using Block Lanczos eigenvalue extraction method. To show the accurateness of the  model developed convergence study is done for various mesh sizes to obtain the suitable mesh density. Present results which are computed are compared and validated with the previously reported results. Finally, the effect of temperature on various parameters like cut-out size to thickness ratio, cut-out size to side ratio, power law index, side to thickness ratio, boundary conditions are shown through various numerical illustrations

    Heat pipe with nano enhanced-PCM for electronic cooling application

    In this study, the thermal performance of a heat pipe using nano enhanced Phase Change Material (PCM) as an energy storage medium for electronic cooling application is studied. The PCM is placed around the adiabatic section of the heat pipe in which heat is absorbed and released depending on the power inputs at the evaporator and fan speeds at the condenser. Experiments are performed to obtain the evaporator, condenser and PCM temperature distributions during the charge, discharge and simultaneous charge/discharge processes. In the present study, Water, Tricosane and nano enhanced Tricosane are used as energy storage materials. The nano enhanced PCMs are prepared by mixing different volume percentage (0.5%, 1% and 2%) of Al2O3 nanoparticles with Tricosane. Thermal conductivity of nano enhanced PCM is measured and found to be enhanced to a maximum of 32% compared to pure Tricosane. The effects of PCM filling volumes, fan speeds and heating power on the performance of cooling module are also investigated. From this study it is found that the evaporator temperature of heat pipe with nano enhanced PCM is decreased about 25.75%, which can save 53% of the fan power compared with the traditional heat pipe.     Achieving Surgical, Obstetric, Trauma, and Anesthesia (SOTA) care for all in South Asia

    South Asia is a demographically crucial, economically aspiring, and socio-culturally diverse region in the world. The region contributes to a large burden of surgically-treatable disease conditions. A large number of people in South Asia cannot access safe and affordable surgical, obstetric, trauma, and anesthesia (SOTA) care when in need. Yet, attention to the region in Global Surgery and Global Health is limited. Here, we assess the status of SOTA care in South Asia. We summarize the evidence on SOTA care indicators and planning. Region-wide, as well as country-specific challenges are highlighted. We also discuss potential directions—initiatives and innovations—toward addressing these challenges. Local partnerships, sustained research and advocacy efforts, and politics can be aligned with evidence-based policymaking and health planning to achieve equitable SOTA care access in the South Asian region under the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC)

    Influence of Soybean Hull Fiber Concentration on the Water Absorption and Mechanical Properties of 3D-Printed Thermoplastic Copolyester/Soybean Hull Fiber Composites

    In this work, fused filament fabrication 3D-printed parts of soybean hull fiber thermoplastic copolyester (TPC) composites with soybean hull fiber concentrations of 0-35 wt.% were tested to understand the influence of mechanical properties and moisture sensitivity on the soybean hull fiber concentration. The composites were analyzed for their microstructures and mechanical properties in as-printed condition and after immersion in deionized water for 168 h. The printed parts with >= 25 wt.% soybean hull fiber were found to have more porosity (9-12%) leading to high rate of water absorption with a maximum weight gain of similar to 8% and up to 4% volumetric swelling. However, in the as-printed condition, these composites exhibited significantly higher elastic modulus of 80 +/- 3 MPa than pure TPC (36 +/- 3 MPa) and their strength improved by 40%. The toughness of the composites decreased below that of pure TPC when the fiber concentration was 35 wt.% due to significant drop in the elongation. The composites with <= 15 wt.% soybean hull fiber showed marginal drop in the mechanical properties due to water absorption. Additionally, the microstructural analysis showed good fiber-matrix interfacial characteristics in as-printed condition, which were damaged due to moisture absorption in addition to defragmentation of fiber bundles. Interestingly, the toughness of TPC-soybean hull fiber composites was immune to water absorption and the deleterious effect of moisture on the mechanical appears to be partly reversible after drying the composites

    Comparison of ultrasonographic anatomy of spine in traditional sitting position versus crossed leg position in term pregnancy: A prospective, observational, crossover study

    Background and Aims: The traditional sitting position (TSP) and crossed leg sitting position (CLSP) are positions used for neuraxial anaesthesia. This study compared the interspinous space (ISS) distance using ultrasound assessment of the spine in these positions in parturients in term gestation. Methods: This prospective, observational study involved ultrasonographic spine assessment in 100 parturients in term gestation with them in either TSP or CLSP. The median sagittal view measured the crescent-shaped hyperechoic reflections of the spinous processes and ISSs in L3–L4, L4–L5 and L5–S1 levels. The paramedian sagittal oblique view showed interlaminar spaces (ILSs). Paired t-test and Chi-square test were used for continuous and categorical variables, respectively. Results: The ISS distance (cm) increased in CLSP compared to TSP at levels L3–L4 (1.44 [0.34] [1.34–1.54] versus 1.22 [0.30] [1.12–1.32], P = 0.04), L4–L5 (1.34 [0.39] [1.20–1.48] versus 1.14 [0.30] [0.96–1.32], P = 0.01) and L5–S1 (1.28 [0.33] [1.17–1.39] versus 1.18 [0.23] [1.11–1.26], P = 0.02). The ILS distance (cm) increased in CLSP compared to TSP at interspaces L3–L4 (1.27 [0.34] [1.18–1.36] versus 1.12 [0.20] [1.08–1.16], P = 0.001), L4–L5 (1.26 [0.33] [1.17–1.35] versus 1.19 [0.32] [1.12–1.26], P = 0.01) and L5–S1 (1.28 [0.33] [1.18–1.38] versus 1.16 [0.27] [1.09–1.23], P = 0.001). Conclusion: Crossed leg sitting position for neuraxial anaesthesia in term pregnancy results in more widening of both interspinous and interlaminar spaces compared to traditional sitting position
